Go lambing in Worcestershire with Times Travel

Breakfast Time at Phepson Farm

Charming Ben Hoyle, his family and friends spent a weekend at Phepson Farm taking advantage of Farm Stay hospitality and shaking off the cobwebs.  Tricia treated them to homemade cake and her spectacular Award Winning breakfasts.  The children were able to get close and friendly with the newborn lambs shortly after birth and got to know something of the cycle of life and how we get the food we eat.  What better way is there to recharge the batteries – Wake Up to the Country!

Help for Heroes Fundraisers

Worcestershire member Mandy Davenport and her husband, Andy who have a son in the Army are great supporters of Help for Heroes.

Every year they organise an annual Flying group Charity Ball in aid of Help 4 Heroes & County Air Ambulance at Puckrup Hilton Hotel, Tewkesbury which includes some great auction items.  This was the 7th time that they have hosted this event and as usual the ball was a great success raising £4188.07, adding up to a total of about £25,000 over the 7 years, which will be divided between both charities.

Donations can still be made to www.justgiving.com/teddy-boys-flying-group

Holidays for Horses in Worcestershire

Where's our breakfast!

Our very first horse guests, Anya and Marble, enjoyed a self catering holiday with us  near Worcester at The Barn, Beechcroft last week….   with their owners of course!  Exploring various Bridleways in the locality and the open space of Kempsey and Stonehall Commons they returned after each ride to graze in the paddock, and relax at night in the stable.   Every morning when I looked out of my bedroom window they would look up and whinny a ‘good morning’.

They have promised to return next year to explore rides further afield such as Wyre Forest, The Malvern Hills, Castlemorton Common and Bredon Hill.

Worcestershire ladies do Sunday lunch for Women V Cancer

Alison, Helen and Jane

Helen Hirons of The Durrance B&B and Self Catering Cottages near Bromsgrove is doing the Women V Cancer 400km bike ride in Kenya in November together with her friends, Alison Griffiths and Jane Fellowes.   Training is going well and all three are on form and not suffering any injuries.

Some of the ladies in the Farm Stay Worcestershire group got together to put on Sunday Lunch to help raise funds.  Marion and Roger Morris of Tippins Farm, Upper Sapey very kindly offered their barn for the event and were also complete stars and donated the ingredients for the main course.

Delicious Desserts

Marion and her colleagues took on the catering with some delicious desserts being provided by the Worcestershire group and other ladies attending the lunch. The rain held off, just, and everybody enjoyed a welcoming tipple of Pimms cocktail, or Barbara’s creation of a non alcoholic Elderflower cocktail followed by lunch and the compulsory raffle.

At the end of the day we raised £742.40 and that has been added to the £200 raised at various shows Farm Stay has attended via public donation, and they have already raised over £5500 by putting on an “Out of Africa” party in July.

You can donate via the Just Giving website.

Award winning breakfasts at Phepson Farm

Well done Tricia on being awarded the coveted Enjoy England Breakfast Award. One of several people in Worcestershire to have this award for providing excellent breakfasts – look out for the red egg cup logo.  Tricia and David have been members of Farm Stay for many years and they provide welcoming Bed & Breakfast and Self Catering cottages at Phepson Farm at Himbleton near Droitwich.

Tiltridge Vineyard – The Best B & B in Worcestershire

We are delighted that Farm Stay B&B member, Tiltridge Vineyard at Upton Upon Severn has won the award for Best Bed & Breakfast in Worcestershire in the Destination Worcestershire Welcome Awards 2011.  The award was announced at an event at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern where Sandy and Peter from Tiltridge were joined by some of their hard working team, together with supporters from Farm Stay UK.

As the name implies, in addition to offering award winning bed and breakfast, Sandy and Peter also produce some lovely wines in their vineyard under the “Elgar” label.

Another Farm Stay member, Overwood B&B near Bromsgrove, was a Highly Commended finalist.

Tiltridge Vineyard and Overwood will now go forward to the national Tourism Excellence awards and we wish them both the best of luck.

Shaun’s already here!

The Shaun the Sheep stand has been set up at The Malvern Spring Garden Show.

If you look closely you might even notice that Shaun has made a rare ‘personal’ appearance at the stand.

If you’re attending the Malvern Garden Show be sure to pop by the Farm Stay stand and say hi to Barbara and the gang, you might be able to get your picture taken with Shaun if you’re lucky enough.

Finalists in Welcome to Worcestershire Awards

Congratulations to Sandy from Tiltridge B&B and Vineyard, and Barbara and Brian from Overwood B&B on reaching the final of the Best Bed & Breakfast category in the Welcome to Worcestershire Awards.  A county wide competition run by Destination Worcestershire for a variety of tourism related establishments and events.  The next round of judging is carried out by Helen Wheels and colleagues  from Radio Wyvern and the winning finalist is announced at an event at the Three counties Showground, Malvern on Friday 17 June – the first day of the Three Counties Show.

We wish them both good luck and, of course, their thanks go to all their guests who voted for them.

Worcestershire lambing

Wiltshire triplets chasing Mum for lunch and a bottle fed orphan at Phepson Farm.  Lambing is nearly finished in Worcestershire and just a few more waiting to be born in the barn.

Wake up to the Heart of England

Local members from Farm Stay B&B and Self Catering in Worcestershire at the Guildhall in Worcester today as part of Destinations Worcestershire’s activities to promote this lovely part of the country.  Helen from The Durrance and Barbara from Overwood enjoyed introducing the children to our Shaun the Sheep activity packs whilst the grown ups had a taste of award winning wine from Tiltridge Vineyard.  Marion from Tippins Farm and Sarah from Old Yates Cottages came along to help followed by Mandy from The Parlour. Lucy from The Green Farm who produces her own honey dropped in, but had to dash off as lambing has started.  Take a quick tour of some of our members by looking at our podcasts on Farmstay TV
